Portfolio of John G Jenkins

Introduction

Hello, my name is John Jenkins.  I was born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Boulder Colorado where I graduated from Fairview High School.  I moved to Spokane Washington in 1989, earning my undergraduate degree in Theology from Whitworth University.  My employment as an instructional assistant for the Spokane School District in 1995, ignited within me a passion to teach children.  In 1996 I returned to Whitworth University receiving a Masters In Teaching degree with a drama endorsement.  Immediately after graduating, I attended a recruiting fair, responding to the opportunity to teach on a remote island in the Pacific.  My first teaching job here in Saipan was at one of the largest elementary schools, William S. Reyes Elementary.  I quickly became an active part of the school community, volunteering for many extra-curricular activities outside of my regular teaching hours.  My third year, in 1999, I was elected as "Teacher of the Year" for our school.

A director in the School of Education at the Northern Marianas Community College (NMC), was impressed with the various televised drama activities of my students.  I immediately accepted the invitation to work as an adjunct at the college, teaching Drama In Education, where it remains to be a popular course among Education majors.  Seattle Pacific University's online program from the Washington Academy of Languages, allowed me to continue my career as a teacher, while increasing my credentials with a TESL endorsement added on to my teaching certification.  Currently, I am employed full time at NMC's School of Education where I teach Educational Psychology, two sections of Drama In Education, Linguistics online, and facilitate several independent study practicum students.

I invite you to browse through this online portfolio and view experiences from my profession as well as some extra-curricular hobbies and activities of a Pacific Island lifestyle.
